Celebrating in a Big Way Cake Decorating Instructions

Perky pachyderm cake will have them Celebrating in a Big Way. His nose, ears and feet are cookies you bake and ice ahead of time. For a more mythical look, try the same design in pink!

Supplies needed:
Bug or Animal Cake Pan
1 box of 2 layer cake mix
Buttercream icing
Royal icing
Meringue Powder
cookie sheet
Roll-Out Cookie Dough
Large Marshmallows
Mini Marshmallows
Cornstarch
Decorating Bags and Couplers or Parchment Triangles
Cake Board, Foil Wrap or Serving Tray

Icing Tips needed:
#3, #12, #16 and #18

Icing colors needed:
Black, Rose,

DECORATING DIRECTIONS:
  1. Roll out cookie dough and cut out ears, trunk, and legs using patterns.
  2. Bake and cool. Prepare royal icing and ice inside of ears, toenails, and end of trunk smooth.
  3. Using tip 3, outline ears and inside ears 3/4 in. from edge, trunk and legs. Using tip 16, star fill in. Set aside to dry.
  4. Using buttercream icing, outline head and eyes on cake.
  5. Cover body and head with tip 16 stars; overpipe stars on head.
  6. Using tip 12, pipe in whites of eyes, pat smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch.
  7. Pipe tip 3 pupils, pat smooth.
  8. Position cookie legs and trunk, prop in position with marshmallows.
  9. Using tip 18, pipe string tail, add tip 3 pull out strings for tail end.






What's The Buzz Decorating Instructions

Supplies needed:
Bug or Animal Cake Pan
1 box of 2 layer cake mix
1 1/2 cups buttercream icing
Cornstarch, light corn syrup
Heart Copper Cutter
6 inch Lollipop Sticks
Cellophane Tape
Cardboard
Sugar Cones
Decorating Bags and Couplers or Parchment Triangles
Cake Board, Foil Wrap or Serving Tray

Icing Tips needed:
#4, #12 and #18

Icing colors needed:
Black, Lemon Yellow, Golden Yellow, Ready-to-use Chocolate Decorator icing

Make 1 1⁄2 cups buttercream icing:
  • Tint 1 cup Lemon Yellow/Golden Yellow combination
  • Reserve 1⁄2 cup white
  • Tint 13⁄4 cups Chocolate Ready-To-Use Decorator Icing Black


To Make 2 Wings Trace heart cookie cutter on cardboard; cut out. Cut 1 1⁄2 inch off pointed ends of hearts. Ice smooth in white icing with spatula; let dry. Tape lollipop sticks to backs. To make stinger trim sugar cone to 3 inch and ice smooth with black icing. To place stinger on cake, insert lollipop stick into cake and position iced cone on top.

DECORATING DIRECTIONS:
  1. Make 2 wings. Trace heart cookie cutter on cardboard; cut out. Cut 1 1/2 inch off pointed ends of hearts. Ice smooth with spatula; let dry. Tape lollipop sticks to backs of wings with cellophane tape. Set aside.
  2. Make stinger. Trim sugar cone to 3 inch and ice smooth with black icing. Let set.
  3. Use tip 4 and white icing to pipe mouth and pipe in whites of eyes.
  4. Use tip 4 and black icing to pipe in pupils (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch.)
  5. Use tip 18 and black icing to cover face and black stripes with stars.
  6. Use tip 18 and Lemon Yellow/Golden Yellow combination icing to cover yellow stripes with stars.
  7. Use tip 4 and black icing to pipe antennae and tip 12 and black icing to pipe balls on antennae ends.
  8. Insert wings and tail.






Seeing Spots Cake Decorating Instructions

Supplies needed:
Bug or Animal Cake Pan
1 box of 2 layer cake mix
buttercream icing
Cookie Sheet
Cornstarch, light corn syrup
Rolling Pin
Dog Ear Patterns
Ruler
Paring Knife
24 ounces Ready-To-Use White Rolled Fondant
Decorating Bags and Couplers or Parchment Triangles
Cake Board, Foil Wrap or Serving Tray

Icing Tips needed:
#3 and #16

Icing colors needed:
Black

DECORATING DIRECTIONS:
  1. Bake and cool cake. To make dog's front leg, roll 3 ounces of fondant into a 4 inch by 1 1/2 inch diameter log and crease in middle to form a right angle.
  2. For back leg, roll 5 ounces of fondant into a 7 inch by 1 1/2 inch diameter log and crease in middle to form another right angle.
  3. Position fondant legs on cake and flatten where needed to conform to cake.
  4. To make tail, roll 1 1/2 ounces of fondant into 3 inch long teardrop shape; position on cake.
  5. To form muzzle, flatten two 1 ounce pieces of fondant to 2 1/2 inch circles; position on cake.
  6. Tint 4 ounces fondant black. Use 3/4 inch ball of black fondant to form nose, 1/2 inch ball of each white and black to make mouth and bottom lip.
  7. Roll 1/2 inch white fondant ball for whites of eyes. Use tip 3 band black icing to pipe lines between toes and eye pupils (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch).
  8. Cover cake with tip 16 white stars alternating with black stars for spots.
  9. Pipe tip 3 dots on muzzle; position fondant nose. To make ears, roll black fondant 1/4 inch thick and use patterns to cut with knife; position on cake.
  10. Roll balls of fondant and position under left ear to lift.






Lady Bug Cake Decorating Instructions

Supplies needed:
Bug or Animal Cake Pan
1 box of 2 layer cake mix
1 1⁄2 cups buttercream icing
Cornstarch, light corn syrup
Decorating Bags and Couplers or Parchment Triangles
Cake Board, Foil Wrap or Serving Tray

Icing Tips needed:
#3 and #16

Icing colors needed:
No-taste Red, Black and Chocolate Ready-To-Use Decorator Icing

Make 1 1⁄2 cups buttercream icing:
  • Tint 1 1⁄4 cups red
  • Tint 11⁄4 cups Chocolate Ready- To-Use Decorator Icing Black
  • Reserve 1⁄4 cup white


DECORATING DIRECTIONS:
  1. WITH BLACK ICING
  2. Use tip 3 to outline eyes, cheeks, antennae, feet and line between wings.
  3. Use tip 3 to pipe-in feet, antennae and eye pupils (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch).
  4. Use tip 16 to cover face and spots on wings.
  5. Use tip 3 to pipe-in cheeks (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch).
  6. Use tip 3 to outline eyelashes.
  7. WITH WHITE ICING
  8. Use tip 3 to outline mouth.
  9. Use tip 3 to pipe-in whites of eyes (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch).
  10. WITH RED ICING
  11. Use tip 16 to make stars to cover wings.






Contentedly Curled Cat Cake Decorating Instructions

Supplies needed:
Bug or Animal Cake Pan
1 box of 2 layer cake mix
buttercream icing
Black Shoestring licorice Cornstarch, light corn syrup
Rolling Pin
Roll and Cut Mat
Ruler
Pizza Wheel
24 ounces Ready-To-Use White Rolled Fondant
Decorating Bags and Couplers or Parchment Triangles
Cake Board, Foil Wrap or Serving Tray

Icing Tips needed:
#4 and #16

Icing colors needed:
Rose, Golden Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Black, Leaf Green and Orange

DECORATING DIRECTIONS:
  1. Combine Rose and Orange for stripe shade shown.
  2. Several days in advance: Make whiskers. Tint a 1 inch ball of fondant black; roll out 1/16 inch thick. Cut six 2 1/2 by 1/16 inch wide strips; curve slightly and let dry on cornstarch-dusted board. Reserve remaining black fondant.
  3. Bake and cool lady bug cake; trim off legs.
  4. For tail, roll a 12 by 3/4 inch thick rope of fondant. Position cake and tail on cake board cut to fit; curving tail to shape.
  5. For back leg, roll a 7 by 1/2 inch wide fondant log; for front leg, roll a 4 by 1/2 inch thick log. Shape into a backward L; position front leg, then back leg on cake.
  6. Roll out fondant 1/8 inch thick; cut two 1 1/4 inch triangles for ears; attach to cake with buttercream.
  7. For cheeks, cut two 1 1/4 x 3/4 in ovals; position on face. For lip, roll a 1 3/4 by 1/4 inch wide log; position below cheeks.
  8. Roll out reserved black fondant 1/8 inch thick; cut a small piece for inside mouth and position on cake.
  9. Pipe in eyes with buttercream; smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch. Overpipe pupils; pat smooth. Cut small black fondant ovals for irises; position.
  10. Tint a 1/2 inch ball of fondant rose; shape into a 1/2 inch triangle for nose and position.
  11. Ice inside ears smooth (pat smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch). Outline leg and toe areas with tip 4.
  12. Cover cat with tip 16 stars. Insert whiskers.
