Please note that the actual pan is the metal "ladybug" style pictured. It can be used to create the bee cake shown.
Supplies needed for bee cake:
Bumble Bee Cake Pan
1 box of 2 layer cake mix
1 1/2 cups buttercream icing
Cornstarch, light corn syrup
Heart cookie cutter
6 inch lollipop sticks
Decorating Bags and Couplers, or Parchment Triangles
Cake Board, Foil Wrap, or Serving Tray
Icing tips needed:
#4, #12, and #18
Icing colors needed:
Black, Lemon Yellow, Golden Yellow, Chocolate Ready-To-Use Decorator Icing
To make 1.5 cups of buttercream icing:
Tint 1 cup lemon yellow/golden yellow combination
Reserve .5 cup white
Tint 1.75 of cups Chocolate Ready-To-Use Decorator Icing black
To make two wings:
Trace heart cookie cutter on cardboard; cut out.
Cut 1 1/2 inch off pointed ends of hearts.
Ice smooth in white icing with spatula; let dry.
Tape lollipop sticks to backs with cellophane tape.
To make stinger:
Trim sugar cone to 3 inches and ice smooth with black icing.
To place stinger on cake, insert lollipop stick into cake and position iced cone on top.
Make the wings and stinger as above.
Use tip 4 and White icing to pipe mouth and pipe in whites of bee eyes.
Use tip 4 and Black icing to pipe in pupils (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch.)
Use tip 18 and Black icing to cover face and black stripes with stars.
Use tip 18 and Lemon Yellow/Golden Yellow combination icing to cover yellow stripes with stars.
Use tip 4 and Black icing to pipe antennae and tip 12 and Black icing to pipe balls on antennae ends.
