Decorating Tips #3, #16, and #21
Ice smooth with spatula. Use thinned white icing for sides and background; thinned black icing for windows; thinned yellow icing for message area, number cloud, and wheel.
Position candy wafer discs for faces.
Pipe outlines with tip #3; Use yellow icing to outline front train engine, smokestack, trim on passenger car and blue icing to outline the passenger car and passenger car windows. Use red icing to outline engineer's cab and the top of the passenger car.
For the roof of the engineer's cab and trim on the passenger car, pipe outlines with tip #16 and yellow icing.
For wheel spokes and the faces, pipe black icing with tip #3.
Print with tip #3. Use red icing in message areas and blue icing for the train number.
Pipe zigzags with tip #16. Use yellow icing on smokestack, red icing on engine frame and the bottom of the cowcatcher. Use yellow icing on the cowcatcher and for the top of the passenger car.
For the front of the engine, pipe in blue icing with tip #3. Pat smooth the piped icing.
Pipe spirals using tip #16 with black icing for wheels, and white icing for the smoke clouds.
Pipe yellow spirals with tip #3 for the hair on the figures in the passenger cars.
For the bottom border, pipe shells using white icing with tip #21.
Pipe rosettes with tip #16. Use blue icing for engine wheel hub and engine accents. Use red icing for passenger car wheel hubs and yellow icing for front engine light.
Position red twist licorice for the connecting rod between the two wheels.
